I Hope I Don't Die in Texas
(Austin,
TX) I hope I don't die in Texas. I'm in a jail cell lying here awaiting
my fate. I hope the Governor learns the truth before the time is
too late.
They
said that I was guilty, of walking by in the wrong place and in
the wrong time. If I was there then I must have been part of the
crime.
They
let the real killer go and they locked me away, Gave me my sentence,
now I'm sitting here counting the days. The Governor thinks he'll
decide after seeing the polls, and let the voters all decide if
I will ever get old.
I
hope I don't die in Texas. The Governor says that the system never
gets the wrong man. My lawyer tells me that he's doing everything
that he can.
They
let the real killer go and they locked me away, gave me my sentence,
now I'm sitting here counting the days. The polls are saying that
the crime has got the voters unnerved. They won't rest easy till
they have the thought that justice was served.
Oh,
Oh, I hope I don't die in Texas. I got a home and my family wants
to see me again. I should be standing on the corner hanging out
with my friends. Instead I'm waiting here in prison wondering how
it will end

As
I die in Texas, my lawyer's thinking that he doesn't want to help
no more. He should be out there making money not defending the
poor, and now he knows just why he never took these cases before.
Oh,
Oh, I hope I don't die in Texas. I got a life, you know my family
wants to see me again. They let the real killer go and they locked
me away. The Governor says someone's dead and someone has to pay.
I got my sentence, now I'm sitting here counting the days
I
hope I don't die in Texas (I hope I don't die in Texas). I hope
I don't die in Texas (I hope I don't die in Texas). I hope I don't
die in Texas (I hope I don't die in Texas).
